When we left our home in Arizona for New Mexico, we were tired, excited, and a little overwhelmed at the thought of taking time away from our work. For the last year, all we have known is the constant hustle and grind of running our own business. Late nights, early mornings, and 15-16 hour work days pretty much sum up our normal day to day. We knew that we were setting out to have a ton of fun and some quality family time. What we didn’t know, was just how badly we needed that time together as a family. No work. No electronics. Just time.
We arrived just before midnight on Wednesday and stayed up late catching up with Erica’s aunt and uncle. It was easy on the first night, because the time change meant that our 1AM bedtime wasn’t quite as late as it seemed. That all changed the next morning! Don’t you just love how those time changes work against you!?
Our first day was spent getting checked in on the Air Force Base and visiting the White Sands National Monument. Brody and Paislee were SO fun to watch when they saw the jets that the base had on display in their museum. We all were able to get up close and personal with the aircraft and it was a totally humbling experience.
We’ve driven by the White Sands plenty of times, but had never stopped in to check out the park. All we can say is, the view from the highway looks NOTHING like the real thing! We learned all about how the unique white sand dunes are formed from nearby dry lakebeds and how they are constantly moving! Brody had so much fun sledding down the sand dunes! Paislee wasn’t so much into the sledding, but her little heart was happy to play with sand toys as it’s the closest thing we’ve had to the beach she’s been begging to visit!
Our favorite part though? The photos! We did allow ourselves to bring along one professional camera, and this was the ONLY day we took it out of the bag – and for good reason! This place is seriously to die for! If anyone is up for a little travel for a one of a kind photo session – let us know!! We’ll go in a heartbeat!!
