Last week, we asked our audience a simple question: What’s the biggest money mindset holding you back in your photography business?
The results? A whopping 80% of you said:
👉 “My money reality is everyone’s money reality.”
This belief is one of the biggest reasons photographers stay stuck—working too much for too little and never quite reaching their income goals.
Today, we’re going deeper into this mindset to bring clarity, breakthrough, and actionable steps to help you shift it once and for all.
1. This Mindset Automatically Limits Your Income
Here’s the truth: If you operate out of scarcity, you will project scarcity.
And when you project scarcity in your business, you:
❌ Play it safe with pricing
❌ Hoard what you have instead of investing in growth
❌ Attract clients who are ALSO stuck in a scarcity mindset
Ask yourself this: Is your ideal client identical to you?
Chances are, they’re not. So if you set your pricing, marketing, and offers based on your current financial reality, you’re completely misaligned with the people you actually want to attract.
Instead, start asking yourself:
💡 Who is my dream client?
💡 What does their financial situation likely look like?
💡 How do they make purchasing decisions?
💡 What do they value most?
When you answer these, you can start shifting your messaging, pricing, and confidence to match their reality—not just your own.
2. You’ll Play Defense Instead of Offense in Your Business
There’s an old football saying: “The best defense is a good offense.” Great advice for sports—not so much for business.
If you let your limiting beliefs control your sales approach, you’ll end up selling from a place of insecurity instead of confidence. And trust us—clients can feel that.
Since moving to the coast, we’ve learned something interesting about sharks: They can sense fear in the water.
If you panic and let your heart rate spike, sharks are more likely to see you as weak prey.
And guess what? Your potential clients can sense fear too.
When you sell from a place of doubt—apologizing for your prices, over-explaining, or hesitating—your ideal client starts questioning:
❌ “Is this photographer really worth it?”
❌ “Will they actually deliver on their promises?”
❌ “Should I look for someone else?”
Selling from confidence and belief in your value changes everything. You aren’t here to convince people to work with you—you’re here to attract the right people.
3. This Keeps You Stuck in the Same Hamster Wheel
Ever feel like you’re running full speed in your business but not actually getting anywhere?
Yeah, we’ve been there.
Hamsters run endlessly in their wheel, thinking they’re making progress—but they’re just stuck in the same loop. Sound familiar?
Here’s why this happens:
🔄 You find initial success doing things one way and fear making any changes.
🔄 You convince yourself that things will change, but nothing actually does.
🔄 You don’t realize that the comfort of your current mindset is actually keeping you trapped.
One of our favorite quotes from our mentor Brad Bizjack is:
“Without a compelling vision of the future, you’re left to deal with the problems of the present.”
If you want to get out of the hamster wheel, you need a vision big enough to pull you forward. That starts with breaking free from your current money mindset and stepping into what’s actually possible.
What is the big vision you have for your business? What is it all about? Who is it all for? Take some time to remind yourself of the reason you start in the first place. Then use that renewed sense of purpose to propel yourself forward.
