There we were, strategizing over coffee (nothing new there; if we meet, we drink ☕️), and trying to figure out what was going to work.
Which means – what we were doing was far from working.
We had pivoted from the world of wedding photography to the world of brand photography and we realized that while we knew how to serve a bride, we didn’t know how to serve a brand.
Wedding Photography vs. Brand Photography
We had this really cute box we moved with us into our brand photography business when we pivoted from wedding and family photography.
I say it was cute because it looked something like:
🥉I’m here to entice you just a bit
🥈I’m buttering you up even more
🥇I’m now irresistible and if you’ve got the budget, you can work with me!
Annnnnd we tried to fit every brand into our box, but it didn’t work. Ever.
With each inquiry that we’d get, we found ourselves going back to the drawing board because none of the 3 packages we had created served the specific needs for any of the brands we were getting inquiries from.
Were we broken?
Were they broken?
What are Branding Photography Clients Really Like?
We weren’t (and aren’t) broken.
Our inquiring branding clients weren’t (and aren’t) broken.
We just needed to hear the famous words from Shrek to help us understand that, just like Shrek himself, branding clients are like onions – they have layers. Lots of layers!
➡️ Layers that make them unique
➡️ Layers that make up their personal branding story
➡️ Layers that show who they are
➡️ Layers that have gotten them to the place where they’re at in their businesses today
➡️ Layers that flaunt their unique aesthetic
➡️ Layers that make them shine among the rest
➡️ Layers that break down common misconceptions others might have about them
Layers upon layers upon layers.
What Your Brand Photography Clients Need from You
As a brand photographer, your secret sauce is in learning and understanding those layers.
Once you do, you’re set up for being your client’s hero, because after you understand your client’s unique brand, you’re then able to capture and communicate their Brand Image Story through the photos you create for them.
That is what your branding clients need the most from you.
It’s time to ditch ‘the box’ and serve your branding clients with a unique photoshoot that’s custom tailored to them and that will provide them with all the compelling images they need to market to their ideal clients.

We’ll show you exactly what makes your brand photography clients unique.
