Hi, WE'RE ERICA+JON

PERSONAL

There are so many times when running our business feels like the best thing in the entire world. Like there could never be any other way to live life. Sometimes it feels like there could be no higher high, no greater feeling than waking up and working together doing what we love each and every day.

Sometimes.

Other times, we’ll be honest – we feel the entire weight of the daily grind. The constant hustle wears us down to where we feel like there is nothing left of us. A setback makes us feel like things are crumbling around us. And being the only ones responsible feels like the last place we want to be. Sometimes we long for more security.

Being entrepreneurs is the biggest roller coaster ride we’ve ever been on. It’s something we anticipated when we made the decision to pursue our dreams. We signed up for it after all. What has amazed us the most is how quickly things can change – something that’s easy to celebrate when it’s good, and hard to remember when it’s not. It’s something we have to remind ourselves of often, and we regularly feel inadequate at keeping our heads held high.

We were talking about this recently, the ups and downs of operating your own business, when we were given some interesting insight that stuck with us. It encouraged us as we looked back on our journey during our first year in business, because we could see the truth in it so clearly.

There will always be peaks and valleys when you run your own business. The goal is to make sure that the peaks keep getting higher, and your time in the valleys keeps getting shorter.

It was encouraging to recognize this as truth. We aren’t the only ones who ride the waves of a rise and fall in business. Heck, even those who aren’t self employed feel it too. Jon did when he worked in tractor sales – some months were great, others not so much. But there was a sigh of relief in recognizing that it’s true for everyone – not just us.

So friend, if you find yourself in a moment where you feel like things just cant get better, know and prepare for the valley that could be just around the corner. Equally, if you are in the valley, know that change can happen overnight.

Either way, here’s our hope for you – ‘May your peaks grow higher and your valleys grow shorter!’ We’re here cheering you on!
