When I worked in the corporate world, Monday mornings met every single stereotype imaginable. The Monday morning grind. The Monday morning blues. How many times have you had this conversation with a coworker?
“How’s your day going?”
“Eh, pretty good for a Monday.”
Truthfully, it took some serious motivation most times to get started working. Now, I won’t lie to you either! Even though Erica and I are living out our dream, some Mondays are still rough! So we thought we’d help get your Monday started with a little helpful motivation. A swift kick in the rear to get your wheels turnin’ and the milk churnin’ (that would be appropriate only if you work in the dairy production industry.)
Last week, we posted something on our Instagram that we were really feeling in the moment. It said, “Shut Up and Do It!” It’s a phrase we’ve come to terms with again and again. See, by nature, Erica and I are both terrible at making decisions, especially important ones. We run through scenario after scenario and think things through to the extreme! As a matter of fact, Erica’s mom even bought her a little sign for our workspace. It says, “Hang on, let me over-think this!”
Needless to say, when it came to making one of the biggest decisions of our lives – to leave a steady income to start our business – we went around and around with our thoughts. After more thinking, a whole lot of prayer, and some advice from trusted friends and family, we ended up resolving to simply “Shut up and do it!”
The same goes for our journey to better physical fitness and health. I’ve personally bounced back and forth from one diet or workout idea to the next. The scale has ping ponged back and forth with no real lasting difference. So when Erica and I decided to start our journey on the TRANSFORM app, it came down to us saying, “Shut up and do it!”
See, there is nothing wrong with thinking things through. As a matter of fact, we highly recommend it. The way we came to our decision to move back to Arizona and go into business full time was the only responsible way. We didn’t just decide to up and leave. We took time to think it out. We prayed about it. We sought input from those we loved. But in the end it came down to tackling the distracting voices in our heads. The doubt, worry, and fear. Everything else seemed to point in the same direction, so we decided to “Shut up and do it.” Nothing has been the same since, and we couldn’t be happier about that!
So this Monday, if you find yourself singing the Monday morning blues and wishing you could drum up the courage to step out and do whatever it is you’ve been wanting to do, we have a few words of advice. First, think it through. Second, pray it over. Third, ask those further along than you for their input. And last, if everything lines up in the same direction, put fear to bed and just “Shut up and do it!”
