December can feel like a blur, can’t it? Between the shopping, wrapping, parties, and planning, it’s easy for this month to slip away—both in life and business. But here’s the thing: December is 1 out of 12 months in the year. That’s 8.3% of your time!
Instead of letting it pass in a haze, let’s talk about how you can maximize your business this month by doing something surprising: slowing down.
The End-of-Year Rush: A Recipe for Overwhelm
This season is packed. For us, it includes the last day of homeschool co-ops before break, Christmas parties with friends, the first day of deer hunting, and more homeschool co-op events—on top of all the regular things we do. Sound familiar?
It’s no wonder December often feels like a “wasted” month when it comes to business goals. To-do lists get tossed aside, and it feels like no one’s even paying attention to what you’re working on. But what if this time could be an opportunity instead of a roadblock?
Gratitude: The Secret to Ending the Year Strong
Chances are, you set some great goals at the start of the year. Chances are, you’ve hit a few of them—and missed a lot of others. We have too.
It can be discouraging to feel like the year is slipping away with unmet goals hanging over your head. But the cure isn’t to work harder right now; it’s perspective.
Slowing down to reflect on everything you’ve accomplished can shift the way you see the year. Gratitude is the cure for discouragement, overwhelm, and anxiety. When you focus on what went right, it creates space for you to enjoy this season instead of feeling stuck in it.
Your Challenge for December
Take five minutes to sit down and journal what you’re grateful for in your business this year. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- The lessons you learned.
- The clients you served.
- The new processes you implemented.
- The personal growth you experienced.
- The grit and determination you showed.
This simple exercise can change everything. Slowing down and practicing gratitude reduces stress and boosts happy feelings like dopamine and serotonin. Out of that place, you’ll feel lighter, more present, and ready to enjoy this season.
Reflect, Recharge, and Finish the Year Strong
December doesn’t have to feel like a blur. By slowing down and taking time for gratitude, you’ll end the year on a positive note and step into the next one with clarity and purpose.
