As parents and business owners, nothing is more heartbreaking or helpful than school. Heartbreaking because we love to be together as a family, and sending Brody off to school all day makes us wish he was with us from the second he gets out of the car in the morning. (Ok, maybe there are some mornings we are happy to drop him off…especially the mornings where both kids think fighting is the best thing they have to do!) Helpful because, let’s face it, we’ve got to have time to run a business! It’s ultimately good all the way around. Brody loves school and thrives in the social environment, and we love that for him too. But we do miss our family days, especially since our weekends this time of year are packed full! Brody calls the weekends ‘home days,’ and we start wishing we had more home days right about this time of year!
So of course we are thrilled when Fall Break rolls around and gives us that long awaited family time together!! It can present it’s own set of unique challenges as business still goes on, but we do our best to balance out the time and make special memories together!
Our fall break plans are starting out with a trip up to the mountains! Erica’s parents live in Show Low now, and it’s a close enough drive in the car that we all survive, but far enough north to make it an escape! Jon loves the cooler temperatures and something about being in the pines is refreshing and inspiring! Brody and Paislee love exploring in the woods and building forts! Jon and Dave (Erica’s Dad) always have a good time hanging out and tackling projects together, and Erica and Tina (her mom) are sure to be busy decorating their new house together! After all, Erica swears that if she weren’t a photographer, she’d be an interior designer! So even though that sounds like work, it’s extra fun work for her!!
Once we get back to the Valley, we are looking forward to a family trip too the zoo with friends!! The zoo is one of our favorite places to go as a family. The weather is finally perfect to go out and enjoy it all! And it’s a huge bonus that they are featuring life sized dinosaurs this month, so Brody is thrilled!!
Our go to favorite for family evenings are movie nights! The kids both get so excited for popcorn and apples and turning our living room into a movie theatre! We turn the lights off, get cozy on the couch and let the movie roll!
It is so important to us to make time even for the small things together as a family. We’d regret every single day if we sacrificed family time for success. It just. not. worth it. So even when it feels like such a busy season for us, we’ll be making the most of the week of family time!
How are you planning to spend time with your family during fall break? We’d love to hear from you!
