If there is one rare thing in life it is genuine and long-lasting friendship. Jon and I feel like we have some amazing friends and realize that we have been incredibly blessed with the friendships we have held onto through the years. I mean, every little girl thinks that their BFF in 2nd grade is going to be their BFF…F…F! Like literally, forever. Grow up through school together, get married at the same time, be neighbors with white picket fences around their cute little homes while their kids little Timmy and little Jimmy continue on the epic eternal friendship into their own lives. Then, reality sets in. Someone moves away, you start at a new school, or just find yourselves into different things and not gellin’ anymore. Friendships sometimes come and go, and that’s totally ok. But sometimes they really do last for what seems like forever.
Nate and Kate are some of those people to Jon and I. Jon has known Nate since the 5th grade and I’ve known him since the 8th grade, so we’ve all lived a little life together! Although we didn’t grow up knowing Kate as long, we can say that she is the sweetest person to walk the face of the planet, and couldn’t think of a better match for Nate. It’s been fun as we all get older to continue those friendships into married life, and now as parents we get to see our kids know each other and play together. Their son Dexter is a handsome little man with eyes that just get you! If you can all remember back to AOL Instant Messenger days with me for just a minute (you know, AIM – what you sat and did for hours after school everyday) – Nate’s screen name was ChickMagnet3420. From the looks of it, little Mr. Dexter will be taking over his dad’s screen name! And since now you are all wondering, I was AandFgirl010889 and Jon was GuitarKid514. We were SO cool! But this is just a small glimpse into how far back our memories go with them.
Whenever we get the chance to fly back to our hometown, we try to get together with these awesome friends of ours. We started Saturday morning with a killer fall sunrise session with them at the beautiful Riparian Preserve. The light was so soft and the muted desert colors just made it a perfect setting. We loved the time we had with them, watching Nate play chase with Dexter around the mesquite trees to break up the session time and Kate being the loving and sweet mom that she is. We ended our day meeting up with them again doing what all good friends do – eating good food! – and continuing to visit while our kids shot hoops inside of their beautiful home.
Nate and Kate, we love you guys, and can’t wait to get you up here to the PNW! Here’s to 19 years of friendship and counting!
