The sun was setting. Only the top edge of soft, glowing light was visible over the ridge of the bluff at the Salt River that we’d been shooting in front of for the last hour. Wild horses galloped across the river and we stood in awe watching them in their natural habitat. It was quite literally picture perfect.
That’s when we heard him ask the question.
“Do you want me to pray for you?”
He was looking down at his son in his arms. Only a minute earlier little Benjamin had fallen while rushing over to see the wild horses. He fell hard, in a way that made us all pause in the moment to make sure he was OK. He had no clue that we heard their conversation, but it made a lasting impression on us. What Andy showed us in that moment is that he was raising his boys to be men. And not just ordinary men, but men of character.
When Emily and Andy arrived for their family session with twin boys Benjamin and Zachary and their little brother Asher in tow, we were thrilled for the time we’d be spending together! Emily had rocked their family outfits and the location and sunlight were as good as they come! But their stylish outfits and the dreamy light weren’t the best thing about this session. The most memorable thing from our time together is the love that this family has for one another. Watching Andy pause from the photos to throw rocks into the river with his boys. Watching Emily’s eyes light up as she held baby Asher in the air for a kiss. Those moments communicated more about who they were as a family than anything else.
Emily and Andy, you guys were a dream to work with! We feel so blessed not only to call you clients, but to call you friends! Your example of love is contagious, and we loved seeing it reflected in your boys and the way they interact with each other and others!
