Your favorite ‘bright and airy’ and ‘lovers of all things white’ photographers might just be known for a new thing – bright, bold, and colorful! It sure feels like we’ve been shooting for a lot of vibrant and bold brands lately, and one of the latest brands we partnered with was no exception!
Qontevo is a brand all about providing stylish and functional reusable lunch bags for health conscious women to use on a daily basis! In their own words, “We were completely underwhelmed by the selection of women’s lunch bags that we were seeing in the marketplace. We knew it was time for a change. Women don’t just need a way to bring food on-the-go; they desire creative designs and bold colors that support their unique individuality.”
Did you catch that? Bold colors!
We loved partnering with such a stylish and creative brand to create all of their product and lifestyle imagery for their website launch and social media content. Sarah, the Founder of Qontevo, and her team were a dream to work with and definitely allowed us to broaden our own style pallete with the bold colors and fun lighting scenarios we worked with.
Here’s a peek at some of our favorites! Oh, and if you’re curious to how we went about creating these images, we’ve outlined it all for you below.
White E-Commerce Product Photos
The first portion of our shoot was focused on capturing white e-commerce photos as mainstay images for the Qontevo website. The images needed to have careful lighting to show all of the detail in the fabric, stitching, and accents and also be consistent across the entire product line for a cohesive shopping experience.
We shot these images on Savage Seamless with 2 Paul C Buff E640 Strobes. The first was shooting through a 60″ Buff Octabox and acted as our key light shaping and defining the products. The second strobe was shooting into a 51″ Silver PLM Umbrella with a diffusion panel and acted as our fill. It was a simple set up that gave us a perfect shooting lane and beautiful, natural light. We used our Canon 5D Mk III with a Canon EF f/2.8 IS USM 100mm Macro and shot tethered using Thether Tools.
Bold, Hard Light Product Photos
Next, we wanted to feature the products in a fun, bold, and vibrant way for social content. The first phase was the product by itself with a little bit of human engagement like a hand or arm in the photo. We wanted these images to pop and added a hard shadow to outline the product to really make a statement.
We shot these images using the seamless paper rolls and the same E640 strobes. We set up the first strobe with a Zoom Reflector as our key light and pulled it back to create that direct light and hard shadow line. We shot the second strobe, also equipped with a zoom reflector, through a 6×6 Scrim for our fill. For these shots, we used our Canon 5D Mk III with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM.
Bold, Directional Light Lifestyle Photos
Finally, we really wanted to highlight human involvement with the Qontevo products so Sarah organized a few models (including herself!) to help us out. We ditched the hard shadow set up from the product photos and aimed to create soft, flattering light with a little bit of an edge. We şet these lights up more straight on to still provide depth while minimizing the light fall-off on the subjects and adding some extra pop!
These images were taken with E640 strobes. The first remained set up with a zoom reflector and shot through the scrim. For our key light, we used a 51″ Silver PLM Umbrella. We shot these with our Canon 5D Mk III and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM.
Additional White E-Commerce Photos
Our client decided that some additional photos to show the inside of bags which contain bold and vibrant (<—there’s those words again!) colors would be helpful for online shoppers. Additionally, we wanted to show the functionality of the bags and give some context for the size and dimensions of the bags by placing common items in them. There was one catch, we were commissioned to shoot these photos at our home studio. Here’s how we did it:
We used our Nissin MG-10’s with an Air10s Wireless Remote for our main key and fill lights. We also used a Nissin MG-80 Pro for an additional fill light on the overhead photos. For modifiers we used the Westcott 26″ Octa Rapid Box and a Wescott 43″ Deep Silver Umbrella with diffusion. We shot using our Canon 5D Mk III and the Canon 100mm Macro for the straight on photos and a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM for the overheads.
