Yesterday confirmed something that Erica says she has known for a long time. This might come as a surprise to you, but….
Jon has a hard head.
But wait! It’s not what it sounds like.
Up until yesterday, we’ve loved our work area. It was one of the first things we put together when we moved into our house. We wanted a comfortable, relaxing workspace that had helpful reminders that encouraged us in why we do what we do.
There’s the sign we have hanging on the wall that is a memorial to the moment we leaped into full-time business. It says, “2017: Do some crazy faith-required things!” On our shelf were two little stones given to us by Amy and Jordan Demos. They are the ones we learned from as we were just getting started. Those rocks symbolized the David and Goliath story from the Bible and remind us that we only have one life to live, and to choose to make the most of it. And the candle…there is a completely burned candle on the shelf. Even though it’s been totally used up, you can still smell Erica’s favorite scent when you lift off the lid. Of course, the most recent addition, and probably the most accurate, is the sign Erica’s mom gave us that says, “Hang on, let me overthink this.” It’s something we have a terrible habit of doing!
That workspace means a lot to us.
But because of Jon’s hard head, it all came crashing down.
As he took his seat at the desk, he leaned just a bit too far forward and head butted the shelf. Somehow, his head managed to force the shelf (secured by four screws) off of the wall and threw everything on it down to the floor. The shelf came crashing down onto our open laptops, which knocked over Jon’s protein shake. There was broken glass everywhere as small decorations lost their battle against the tile floor. Stunned from what had just happened, Jon backed away from the desk to see his chocolate protein shake splattered on the wall and running in streaks down to the baseboard. It was a total mess.
Thankfully, except for a few small decor casualties and a new knick in Erica’s MacBook, everything turned out ok. What could have been terrible, turned out to…well it was actually pretty terrible. But the important things survived even if Jon’s ego was bruised just like the top of his head.
